The Golden Harp Fund

Breaking News

Goldie has been sent up to Oregon to be repaired by Sandpiper Harps! I am so excited that I will finally be able to learn pedal harp, and this 85-year-old beauty of an instrument will be playable again. I have no idea how long it will take for John to fix the harp, but the point is it will be fixed after all. And it will be fixed for far cheaper than Lyon and Healy would do, and I think John will do an excellent job because I love his harps.

Any further donations to this fund will help with my musical studies with Cheryl Ann Fulton and others.

You can read the old blurb about this project below:

I have recently adopted a golden semi-grand pedal harp, built by Lyon & Healy in 1920. The harp was originally given to the Community Music School's Music Match program, which places donated instruments with people and organizations who really need them. Unfortunately, the beautiful 6-foot-tall harp is in need of serious repairs before it will make music again. The soundboard must be replaced, the pins cleaned, and the harp re-strung.

To raise the money to fix this instrument, I have released my new album The Black Rose as a benefit. After the costs of production, CD sales will go to the Golden Harp Fund, my personal fundraising project. When enough funds are available, the harp will be fully restored by a professional pedal harp technician. The estimated cost of fixing this harp is around $6,000, so extra donations are very welcome!

Keep in mind, CD's make excellent presents! So if you enjoy The Black Rose, please consider purchasing additional copies as gifts for family and friends. Copies are $15 each when you buy them at live shows or at Streetlight Records in Santa Cruz. You can also listen to songs from The Black Rose or buy copies online by visiting CD Baby.

I will be posting updates as the Golden Harp project progresses, and getting out of CD debt is a big step forward in my efforts. This is an area where I really need support! I am very grateful for the tremendous encouragement I have been given by fans, family and friends, and especially Barry and Shelley Phillips, Mark Wiens, the Community Music School, and my teacher Cheryl Ann Fulton.

And of course, CD’s are always available when I play at The Attic
tea house (931 Pacific Ave, next to Streetlight Records, upstairs) First Fridays from 6-8pm. Cheers! - J
